11/6: THE PHIL RUDD SITUATION

Very disturbing news about the Phil Rudd situation. I’ve been reading the various media reports and it obviously sounds very serious and sad if true. As usual before making any judgements I’d prefer to wait to see how it all plays out and what the legal system determines. A few things are obvious however. It is hard to believe the band and their reps didn’t know something was coming down with Rudd and explains why he was not in the official press photo and apparently the video for the “Play Ball” clip. You would have to think that they easily would have photo shopped him in to the press shot if it was just a conflict which kept him from making the session. Tons of bands do that and a band as major as AC/DC would not have released an official press photo without a key member if they didn’t sense there could be possible issues. Just makes no sense. The band has released a statement saying they didn’t know about anything until the news just broke but thinking it’s just coincidence that Rudd was not being in the photo is far reaching. They have stated everything is moving forward as planned. With a massive tour planned for next year unless he is exonerated from these accusations you would have to think AC/DC needs a new drummer ASAP. Not only for the tour but with the album coming promo appearances too. Do they go back to Chris Slade or Simon Wright? Or get totally new blood. Sad to see one of the great iconic bands now down two key members but the simple truth is neither loss will cost them one less ticket sold. Every band has the key members that if they lost would hurt the draw. In AC/DC’s case it’s Brian and of course Angus. That’s what the mainstream knows and sees. We are hardcore fans. We know and care if Bill Ward, Michael Anthony, Ace Frehley, Peter Criss, etc aren’t there, and many of us still go as well. But to the masses as long as AC/DC plays the hits, Angus is the schoolboy, and Brian is singing, it won’t cost them a ticket. Right or wrong it’s just the truth. AC/DC has always been kind of stealth in the way they do things. Not releasing much info and very little social media presence. The Young brothers call all the shows and with Malcolm down that means Angus. Let’s see what the next moves are. No doubt more to come but as much as it sucks to lose the rock solid Rudd, this will no doubt not impact any plans that were already in place. Who do you think should play drums assuming it’s not Phil?

11/4: KOTZEN, HALFORD, VANDENBERG, BOOKS, NEW APPEARANCES.

Thanks to Richie Kotzen and Rob Halford for being guests last night on my SiriusXM show. Richie is now on a solo tour of the US after returning from Europe. I’ll be hosting his show at BBs in NYC tomorrow night. If you only know Richie from The Winery Dogs he has a HUGE catalog of solo music that includes his early Shrapnel shred stuff, many solo albums that have many styles of music, and even some one off band stuff. His set now is played with a trio and is mostly his last few albums which are among my favorites. The guy is a pretty mind blowing all around talent and you should check him out solo if you have the chance.

Halford was very pumped about the current Priest tour and it was good to speak with him about a bunch of stuff. It sounds like Priest is far from done and he said they have already written a few things on the road for another possible album. This interview will also be included in my FM/syndicated show in less than 2 weeks and available for AA members of this site. Great to speak with Rob after finally seeing the Priest show and see and hear him sounding and feeling so well. He did go through a tough time with some surgeries. This is one of the all time greats on stage and as a total class person off. Honored to have him as a friend and supporter (he wrote the forward for my first book and it was Rob’s idea for Priest to play a free private show in honor of the 25th anniversary of my radio show. Still one of the great highlights of my life!).

11/1: REPORT FROM JUDAS PRIEST IN FLORIDA

Just back from hosting Judas Priest in Florida at the Hard Rock and seeing them live for the first time on this tour. After the Epitaph tour many thought we would never see Priest again as they kind of announced a retirement, but thankfully all that changed with the arrival of the bands new album and current tour. Whenever a band has the years on them like Priest does most fans worry, and with good reason, cracks might start to show in their ability to perform. We have seen many stay too long at the party and just not be what they once were. I can honestly say Priest do not fall into that category. Priest, and in particular Rob Halford, truly were in top form. Much has been made recently among some fans about Rob’s voice and questioning if he can still go grab the high notes and screams. Much of the concern came from his recent back and hernia operations and his vocal being in a slightly lower register on some recent recordings. Well I am proud to report that live Rob is still very much the metal God and nailed everything Thursday night, maybe better than he has in years. He is singing and moving well on stage, likely due to being healthy and out of pain from past ailments. Beyond The Realms Of Death, Victim Of Changes, Devils Child, just nailed it all! The entire band sounded great and rocked a set featuring four new songs and a bunch of hits and deep tracks. I also must say the new material really came alive on stage. I do like the new album but at times the production can make it feel a little reserved in it’s attack. Live the songs really jumped out and took on new life. Really enjoyed hearing the new material with this energy and punch on stage. Had a chance to see most of the guys before the show and all were in great spirits and seem to be enjoying the tour. They continue in the US for a bit longer before going to Europe. I had Glenn on my radio show Monday and he was unsure how much longer Priest would continue. He also said it was unlikely they would do some sort of proper farewell tour or show, preferring to just drift away. So be sure to see this iconic band while you still can since nobody knows how much longer they will be doing it. To me after Sabbath, Priest is the most important band in metal history, and it was great to see and hear them sounding so good still. Long live the Metal Gods! Halford will call into my show Monday on SiriusXM.

10/28: PRIEST IN FL THIS WEEK, JOE PERRY THIS WEEKEND, JERICHO PODCAST, MORE

Off the Florida for a couple days to host Judas Priest at the Seminole Hard Rock in Hollywood FL Thursday night. I’ve had some great times recently hosting many shows at this venue, always a blast in S Florida! Tickets are available right up till showtime so if in that area of the country hope to see you. After the show I’ll be at the Hard Rock Cafe inside the casino selling and signing both of my books. Come by and say hello right after Priest wraps up. Follow on Twitter @EddieTrunk for up to the second photos and updates. Excited to finally see the Metal Gods on this tour!

Speaking of Priest had a great chat with Glenn Tipton on my SiriusXM show last night. Glenn was very happy about how things are going but also was unsure how much longer Priest would continue before they retire. He did say it was unlikely they would do a farewell tour or even show at this point. More likely just quietly wind down. But still plenty of shows still to come so don’t miss these legends. The greats are getting up there and nobody knows how many years they have to go.

My FM radio show this weekend features an entire middle hour with music from Aerosmith and excerpts from my recent interview with Joe Perry from his book launch.

All new podcast posts this Thursday on Itunes and at www.podcastone.com with Chris Jericho and Rich Ward as the guests.

Happy Halloween all. I’ll be back Friday night to take my kids trick or treating. Be safe and follow on Twitter and FB for more updates before then.

10/27/14: GLENN TIPTON, GLENN DANZIG, BOOKS, CHILLER, PRIEST IN FL THIS WEEK

Hope everyone had a good weekend. Was fun hanging at the Chiller show in NJ over the weekend. Thanks to all who came to my signings. Also cool to spend some time with my TMS partner Don Jamieson and chat some with Lita Ford, Cherie Currie, Marky Ramone and Tony Orlando. Yes Tony Orlando! Clearly not a rocker but as a kid growing up in the 70’s he was a part of my childhood and was a super nice guy. Also hung with Ace Frehley for a few minutes. He is excited about the upcoming live shows which kick off in NJ 11/13 at the State Theater. Win tickets for this and many other shows by visiting “ET’s Box Office” on this site! See you there.

Both of my books are available via mail and make perfect gifts for the coming holidays. Please hit the “Books” tab on this site for order info. I’ll mail it anywhere in the USA and write whatever you’d like as far as personalization. Order early for plenty of delivery time and be sure to specify VOL 1 or VOL 2 with your order! Thanks.
